Sir Ronald Sanders, Antigua and Barbuda’s Ambassador to the United States, Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States and Non-Resident High Commissioner to Canada, received Ukraine’s Order of Merit on 19 October 2026.

Ukraine’s Chargé d’affaires, Denys Sienik, presented the decoration at the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington, DC. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had awarded the honour by decree in August 2025.

The recognition highlights Sir Ronald’s diplomatic efforts to uphold Ukraine’s independence and borders, including his leadership in securing OAS action following Russia’s invasion.

In accepting, Sir Ronald shared the honour with Antigua and Barbuda’s government. He stressed that respect for international law safeguards small states and urged continued solidarity with Ukraine and a lasting peace.
