On March 30th at 10:30 AM, the Blackhurst Cultural Centre marked a significant milestone in its ongoing construction project by hosting a special ceremony that highlighted both progress and legacy.

The event invited members of the community to participate in a symbolic moment—depositing time capsules and currencies into the building’s structure. This act serves as a powerful tribute to heritage, memory, and the enduring contributions of the African and Caribbean diaspora in Canada.

Representing the Caribbean Consular Corps, the Consul General of Antigua and Barbuda attended the ceremony and shared in what was described as an important anthropological statement of legacy. Of particular significance was the inclusion of coins from Kwame Delfish, adding a unique cultural and historical dimension to the occasion.

The Blackhurst Cultural Centre continues to stand as a vital institution and will serve as a central hub for African and Caribbean arts and culture in Toronto. Once completed, the Centre is expected to further strengthen cultural expression, community engagement, and the preservation of shared heritage.
