The Consulate General of Antigua and Barbuda in Toronto joined members of the Guyanese community, fellow Caribbean Consuls General, dignitaries, and friends in a solemn Night of Prayer and Reflection hosted by the Consulate General of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana on Friday, July 24, 2026.

The vigil was held in memory of the victims of the tragic M.V. Barima Ferry disaster and served as a moment of prayer, remembrance, and regional solidarity. Community members gathered to honour those who lost their lives, offer condolences to their families, and stand together in support of the people of Guyana.

Speaking on behalf of Antigua and Barbuda, Consul General Gail Christian expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and emphasized the unity of the Caribbean during times of hardship.

“In moments such as this, national borders seem non-existent. We are reminded that we belong to one another, and that when tragedy touches one part of our region, its sorrow is felt by us all.”

She further noted that the evening’s gathering was a testament to the enduring spirit of Caribbean solidarity, reminding those affected that they do not grieve alone and that the region stands with them during this difficult time.

The Consulate General of Antigua and Barbuda extends its deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of all those who perished, and reaffirms its unwavering support for the people of Guyana during this period of mourning.
